History Gallery

Our history from an African American perspective. We honor notable Black Americans in this gallery.

This painting is done in what the artist calls a 'narrative portrait'. We see the portrait of Dr.King surrounded by scenes from his life and speeches. Saint is honored to have this original residing on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Ga, just blocks from Ebenezer Baptist Church. 'I Have a Dream'

'Deadwood Dick', not a name a man would want to be nicknamed but for Nat Love the name pays tribute to his winning a rifle shoting contest in Deadwood, Wyoming. This Black Indian cowboy lived in a environment that required more aggressive methods of self defense. We honor all the Black Cowboys of the old west. Some estimates say that these African American cowboys were nearly 40% of all cowboys. You would never know it from watching Hollywood westerns. I recommend the book 'Black Indians' to learn more about this subject.

Actress Dorothy Dandridge made history for being the first African American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for an actress in a leading role. Her life was truly tragic. This painting was inspired by an old photo from Life Magazine. Saint had the photo in his desk drawer for nearly 20 years before rediscovering it and painting 'Fallen Angel'.

The African American presence on the American continent began way before the Mayflower. This gallery will explore our story from the Olmecs to modern day African American heroes and heroins.
